Crescent Moon Festival Artists and Schedule Announced!

Have you ever heard an Aztec origin story in a Vietnamese restaurant? Only at the Crescent Moon Festival and only in Crescent Heights Village BIA!

Crescent Heights Village BIA is thrilled to announce the lineup for the 2022 Crescent Moon Festival Saturday, February 12 from 6-9 p.m. on Centre Street North. With a diverse mix of storytellers, spoken word artists and singer/songwriters, this little festival combines captivating stories in unique venues including Rau Bistro, Bambu and Chewgurt Yummy with one more TBA. 

Our storytellers include:

  • Indigenous storyteller and songstress Chantal Chagnon
  • Master storyteller Mera Reyes telling tales of Aztec gods and the origins of the world
  • Matt Blais brings his unique folk/rock perspective
  • Story warrior Brigitte Lessard Deyell will speak to themes of belonging, diversity and LGBTQ stories
  • Emet is an Irish-born songwriter who celebrates diverse themes in their unique brand of pop
  • Priscille Bukasa is a spoken word poet whose poems on themes of Black history and anti-racism are moving and powerful
  • da Lyrical pitbull Wakefield Brewster makes a unique “big-door-only” appearance with his moving poem, Black Lit
  • Neo-soul singer/ songwriter Natalia Chai brings cool vibes
  • Zenon whose beautiful voice and skilled playing relate stories of diversity

Crescent Moon Festival Update: Two Weeks Away!
 
The Crescent Moon Storytelling Festival is less than two weeks away! Here’s what’s new and what’s next: 
  • Venues: We will have storytellers and musicians at Rau Bistro, Two Pillars Brewery, Bambu and Chewgurt Yummy. Interested in hosting this year or next? Contact Camie for information.
  • Public Art: We are finalizing two locations for the cool Big Art doors! 
  • Artists: Our storytellers and musicians include Brigitte Lessard Deyell, Chantal Chagnon, Priscille Buckasa, Natalia Chai, Matt Blais, Emet with a couple more still to be announced. 
  • Festival Passports: We’ll be in touch this week about your business’ inclusion on the festival passport by offering a special Crescent Moon product or discount next week and during the festival. Last year, Two Pillars did a Crescent Moon beer. This year, Tea Funny is making a special Crescent Moon Bubble Tea. Face & Co. is offering $25 express manicures that evening. What will you offer? 
  • Lanterns: Did you know that your customers are making Crescent Moon lanterns for you as we speak!? Customers of Aleppo, The Captain’s Boil, K Town Fried Chicken, Koi Fresh Fruits & Tea, Sought x Found Coffee Roasters, Spirit Leaf, Tigerstedt Pop-Up Flea Market, Chewgurt Yummy and Deepak’s Dhaba are all making beautiful lanterns for their stores!   • Volunteers Needed: We’re looking for volunteers to help distribute flyers to the neighbourhood this weekend as well as to participate in the Lantern Parade from 4-5 p.m. on February 12. Want to help? Contact Brittany!
